My name is Tara, I live in the U.K. and I blog about life with my daughter, Freya – my sunshine After The Rain.
What does a typical Friday look like in your life?
We don’t really have a typical Friday. Sometimes we will meet friends for playdates, others we might hit the park, go for a swim or just chill out at home. Freya goes to nursery two mornings a week and my parents normally visit on a Thursday so Wednesdays and Fridays are really our only times to do whatever we want.
What is the best thing about having Freya?
There are so many different things and I think it changes all the time. At the moment I really like the way she helps me look at the same things but with fresh eyes.
What can you do to get a giggle out of Freya?
Freya laughs easily and often. She loves tickles but the strangest things can set her off. I love hearing her laugh.
What is the biggest challenge at the moment?
Sleep (or rather lack of). She is three now and has slept through (until 5am) a grand total of three times. Don’t get me wrong, it is so much better than it was (she was waking every 10 minutes when her reflux was out of control) but some days it is still a struggle for me and her.
How do you handle the days where ‘nothing goes right’?
At the end of the day I do look back and see if there is anything I could have done differently but some days are just a nightmare. I think you just have to accept it and hope tomorrow is a better day.
What do you miss the most about your life before children?
Time. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t do more while I had the free time.
Do you have any words of wisdom for new mums?
A consultant who was treating Freya once said: “This is not the same baby you will have in a week or a month.” In my severely sleep-deprived state I thought he was talking about swapping her but, of course, what he really meant was that babies change so much over the first year that what we were struggling with one week might be gone the next. Our first year was tough, although I know many others have it far worse, but I kept going by telling myself “this too shall pass”. And it did.
Thank you Tara for being my second Feature Mum. Check out Tara’s blog After the Rain. She is also an amazing photographer and posts some beautiful photos.
